Zimbabwe chose to bowl against Ireland

Zimbabwe asked Ireland to bat in the first T20I in Harare as they look to bounce back after failing to qualify for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Middle-order batter Brian Bennett and fast bowler Trevor Gwandu, who earned maiden call-ups for the series, have been handed their debuts.

Allrounder Wessly Madhevere is set to open alongside Tadiwanashe Madhevere, with Sikandar Raza slotting back in the middle order, having opened in their last game against Kenya.

It was a late call to leave Craig Ervine, who complained of groin niggle, out of the XI.

For Ireland, there was one change from the XI that they fielded in their last T20I, against India in August, with Gareth Delany coming in for legspinner Ben White, who is not a part of the squad touring Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe XI: Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wessly Madhevere, Sean Williams, Sikander Raza (capt), Ryan Burl, Clive Madande (wk), Brian Bennett, Luke Jongwe, Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, Trevor Gwandu

Ireland XI: Paul Stirling (capt), Andy Balbirnie, Lorcan Tucker (wk), Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Mark Adair, George Delany, Barry McCarthy, Craig Young, Josh Little
