Australia bowl, Green retains spot as opener against jetlagged West Indies

Australia chose to bowl against West Indies

Cameron Green has again been listed as opener in Australia’s T20I side with Aaron Finch carded to bat in the middle order against West Indies on the Gold Coast.

Without the bowling of Mitchell Marsh, who plays as a specialist batter, and the injured Marcus Stoinis, Australia have got creative to give themselves another bowling option and allow Green the chance to build on his success in India. However, his only chance of making the final World Cup squad is still an injury to one of the originally selected 15.

Steven Smith is the frontline batter to miss out as Tim David keeps his spot in the middle order.

Some of the West Indies squad, those involved in the CPL final, have been in Australia barely 24 hours and captain Nicholas Pooran said there were a few niggles around the side. Shamarh Brooks, who has replaced the dropped Shimron Hetmyer, has yet to arrive so they have selected from 14.

Akeal Hosein, who has a BBL deal with Melbourne Renegades, Obed McCoy and Evin Lewis are the three to sit out.

Australia 1 David Warner, 2 Cameron Green, 3 Mitchell Marsh, 4 Aaron Finch (capt), 5 Glenn Maxwell, 6 Tim David, 7 Matthew Wade (wk), 8 Mitchell Starc, 9 Pat Cummins, 10 Adam Zampa, 11 Josh Hazlewood

West Indies 1 Brandon King, 2 Johnson Charles, 3 Kyle Mayers, 4 Nicholas Pooran (capt & wk), 5 Rovman Powell, 6 Jason Holder, 7 Odean Smith, 8 Raymon Reifer, 9 Yannic Cariah, 10 Alzarri Joseph, 11 Sheldon Cottrell
