Toss Sri Lanka chose to bowl vs Bangladesh

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka decided to field first after winning the toss against Bangladesh in the last Group B game in the Asia Cup. Both teams find themselves in this do-or-die position after Afghanistan beat both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh quite comfortably. Afghanistan are through to the Super 4s, and the winner of tonight’s game in Dubai will join them there.

Asitha Fernando makes his T20I debut for Sri Lanka, coming in for Matheesha Pathirana in a straight seamer-for-seamer swap. Bangladesh, meanwhile, dropped both openers Mohammad Naim and Anamul Haque, as well as Mohammad Saifuddin. They have brought in Sabbir Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, apart from handing a debut in the shortest format to Ebadot Hossain.

Both captains hoped for improved batting displays from their sides, with Shanaka suggesting Sri Lanka would continue their aggressive approach. Shakib will hope Sabbir and Mehidy use their experience well.

The match will be played on the same Dubai pitch on which India and Hong Kong played on Wednesday. It is dry, but is expected to remain batting-friendly.
