Toss South Africa chose to bat vs England

Ben Stokes will take the field in his final ODI for England after Keshav Maharaj chose to bat first in Durham. On a day when temperatures are expected to reach a record high in England, Maharaj cited the weather and a dry-looking pitch as his reasons for defending a total. South Africa have included both specialist spinners, Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi, and have Aiden Markram’s offspin to that end
England also have several spin options in their XI including Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, who has returned from completing the Hajj pilgrimage, Liam Livingstone and Joe Root. They are equally resourced in the seam bowling department with Stokes, Sam Curran, Brydon Carse and debutant Matthew Potts, who was capped by Mark Wood, in their XI. Potts, Rashid and Curran replace Reece Topley, Craig Overton and David Willey from England’s last ODI against India.
South Africa have not played an ODI since March and made four changes to the team they fielded then. Regular white-ball captain Temba Bavuma is out with injury, creating room for Markram to return, Kyle Verreynne has been benched, Dwaine Pretorius makes way for Andile Phehlukwayo, and Kagiso Rabada is being rested, with Anrich Nortje returning.

This series is not part of the World Cup Super League.
