Tourists hand T20I debuts to Garton, Salt and Brook with series 1-1

Toss England chose to bowl vs West Indies

A new-look England have won a rain-delayed toss and opted to bowl first in the third of five T20Is against West Indies in Barbados with the series level at 1-1.

England have rung in the changes after their narrow one-run win on Sunday night which followed their nine-wicket drubbing the previous day, handing debuts to George Garton, Phil Salt and Harry Brook. Moeen Ali will captain the side in the absence of Eoin Morgan, who is out with a quadriceps complaint.
Salt was part of the hastily assembled ODI squad that beat Pakistan 3-0 after a Covid outbreak in July, with Garton among those who had to isolate. Salt enjoyed an impressive winter on the franchise circuit – he was the second-highest run-scorer at the Abu Dhabi T10 and led the Lanka Premier League’s run charts heading into the final – and now finds himself playing for England on the island where he lived for six years as a youngster, after being presented with his T20I cap by Jason Roy.

Garton, who was presented with his cap by Chris Jordan, has been on England’s radar for a number of years and Brook was added to England’s T20I squad as cover when Sam Billings was called into the Ashes squad for the final Test in Hobart. Brook scored 1,286 runs across all formats during the English summer, including 486 runs at 69.42 in the Vitality Blast and a further 189 in five Hundred innings for Northern Superchargers.

Also sitting this one out for England are Billings, who is unwell, and Liam Dawson, meaning Tom Banton will take the wicketkeeping gloves, while Liam Livingstone is back in the side after missing the first two matches through illness. Jordan and Saqib Mahmood have been left out, with Tymal Mills returning to the attack.

West Indies, meanwhile made just one change, bolstering their batting line-up with Rovman Powell, who replaces allrounder Odean Smith.

Rain delayed the toss for half an hour with play set to get underway on a fresh pitch with heavy cloud cover remaining.
