Theekshana and Rajapaksa surprise picks in Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup squad

Fresh after a glorious debut on Tuesday, Maheesh Theekshana received an even bigger boost when he was named as part of Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup squad. The 21-year old offspinner is one of two surprise picks with Bhanuka Rajapaksa, a player on probation, also among the touring party who are headed to the UAE.

The SLC have not yet officially announced this squad themselves – it came out during the broadcast of Sri Lanka’s T20I against South Africa – as they are waiting on ministerial approval.

Sri Lanka squad: Dasun Shanaka (capt), Dhananjaya de Silva, Avishka Fernando, Charith Asalanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Kamindu Mendis, Kusal Perera, Dinesh Chandimal, Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Binura Fernando, Akila Dananjaya, Maheesh Theekshana, Praveen Jayawickrama, Dushmantha Chameera

Reserves (subject to change): Nuwan Pradeep, Lahiru Kumara, Lahiru Madushanka, Pulina Tharanga
