Toss England chose to bowl vs Sri Lanka

England have won the toss and chosen to bowl first in the second ODI against Sri Lanka at the Oval.

Jason Roy returns at the top of the home batting order after a hamstring injury and Tom Curran will come in for seamer Chris Woakes, who was Player of the Match after taking 4 for 18 in England’s five-wicket victory in Durham, which gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

England have not lost an ODI at The Kia Oval since 2015, while Sri Lanka have been beaten on four of their last five visits to the ground.

Sri Lanka fielded three debutants at Chester-le-Street – Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya Lakshan and Praveen Jayawickrama – who collectively made six runs and bowled three overs. Asalanka retains his place while the other two drop out along with Ramesh Mendis.

They make way for surprise selection Avishka Fernando, who had been previously ruled out of the series with a quadriceps injury. Dhananjaya de Silva passed a late fitness test after suffering back spasms to add experience to Sri Lanka’s line-up with 48 ODIs already under his belt. Asitha Fernando also comes into the XI.

The match has been named the Royal London X ACE ODI in recognition of the ACE Programme, founded by Ebony Rainford-Brent last year at The Oval and which is opening a new centre in Bristol.
